Where Is Angsana Ihuru?
Angsana Ihuru Maldives is located some 20 to 25 minutes speedboat ride on the northwest of Male International Airport in North Male Atoll. It is a 5 star resort on Angsana Island which itself is very small and takes between 5 and 8 minutes to go around on foot. What makes Angsana Ihuru holidays special and popular with travelers is its house reef (more below) and its proximity to Male the capital of Maldives. Transfer from airport to hotel is a big factor in deciding a holiday in Maldives as the further a resort is the more pricey a transfer can become as it would involve a seaplane trip. By all standards Angsana is a Maldivian gem which is cozy has lush vegetation, postcard type beaches and azure lagoon waters.
Angsana Ihuru resort is among resorts in the Maldives with a special focus on environmental preservation along side their hospitality endeavors. This is what makes the island extra special for many visitors. There is a conservation center on site which works to preserve coral and the environment in general. Room roofs even have solar panels as an alternative source of energy. The resort is popular with couples including honeymooners. In 2013 it began accepting families with children. Rooms at the resort have been made well to cater for this category of travelers. This is primarily a non-formal, quite, laid back resort to come and relax in an excelling natural environment. Even though there are things to do – predominantly snorkeling and diving – there is no excessive activity. The resort is located a mere 5 minutes away by boat from a sister hotel – Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru which is also available to visit.
Angsana Ihuru Rooms: Beachfront Villa + Beachfront Jet Pool Villa
At only 45 rooms, Angsana resort Ihuru is clearly a small intimate and romantic hotel. At capacity the resort will be carrying some 100 or so overnight guests (guests from next door sister resort Banyan Tree also visit resort). All rooms are situated on the island. There are no over water villas here as you have at Baros, Bandos, Adaaran Prestige, Filitheyo, Constance Halaveli and others; the list is really endless. The lack of over water villas is also a plus to the general reef health. The two categories of rooms at Angsana Ihuru are beachfront villas and beachfront jet pool villas. The difference between the two rooms is found in the jet pool. One category has the jet pool the other has not. Rooms at the resort are well appointed, modern, with modern interiors and decorations. They are very comfortable and have direct beach access. The beach is literally steps away from the room.
Room amenities include modern electronics. Both types of rooms can accommodate up to 4 people and even take on two extra beds. These rooms are family or group friendly. Housekeeping at the resort is on the ball in keeping rooms clean and spotless and with a turn down service available each evening. In-villa dining is also present with some guests never setting foot in the restaurant for certain meals. If interested in rooms close to the restaurant, rooms 1 to 4 are very close to public areas. For guests who are on a snorkeling trip villas ranging from number 5 to around 30 have access to arguably the best reef at the resort. It is also on this side that there are very good sunset moments.
Resort Dining: Riveli + Velaavani Bar
There is only one restaurant and one bar at Angsana Ihuru. Riveli is the main restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food is very good and well prepared here. Reveli is a water front restaurant which serves Asian, Mediterranean and Maldivian cuisine. There is indoor and outdoor next to the sea seating available. As a tip here, arriving early enough or towards the end increases your chances of getting a water’s edge table which is a fantastic experience. Breakfast buffet has a wide variety to pick from. Food items are neatly arranged and labeled. In order to preempt possible annoying food repetition the restaurant dinner is in rotation between buffet and a la carte dinning. As mentioned earlier room dinning is available and so is destination romantic private dinning for honeymooners and couples. Some of the dinning is however subject to prevailing weather conditions. Velaavani Bar is a waterfront bar which is a great place to hangout.

Angsana Ihuru House Reef and Dive Center
Snorkeling is big at the resort. This is one of the reasons many guests come to this near Male resort. As already mentioned the resort offers pristine beaches and beautiful waters. The house reef at the hotel is a few meters away from each room and circles the entire small resort. There are marked entry points around the resort. Snorkeling around the reef can be completed within just above an hour. The resort has a clear diagram indicating areas allowed to snorkel for beginners and advanced guests.
The staff itself is well accustomed to snorkeling and what the resort has to offer in this regard. Angsana Ihuru snorkeling will bring you into contact with lion fish, hawksbill turtles, white tip and black tip sharks (which are harmless), moray eels, octopus, and a lot more colored fish typical of the Maldives. The house reef at the hotel is often compared to an aquarium. The resort offers very good diving opportunities around the reef through the dedicated dive center. The center has very good modern equipment used for scuba diving classes by guests.
Quality of Service
The quality of service at this remarkably small island resort is top-drawer and overall consistent with its 5 star status. The staff appears genuinely interested in guests and their welfare. It is apparent that the conservation efforts of the resort have become an important rallying point for all staff as many are proud to be associated with what the resort stands for. This atmosphere of help and support fills the general attitude of staff even towards guests. There is little wonder many guests are repeaters of several years. The service and experience largely speaks for itself. Personal touches are not in short supply at the resort such as hand written welcome notes small gifts and bed decorations in the room. This does not imply nor guarantee a 100% spot-on service as slip-ups are bound to happen. In overall terms the resort has good and consistent service.
- Take note the resort has a significant population of huge ants. These are not altogether harmful but may bother individuals with Myrmecophobia
- Snorkeling equipment is free of charge but it is a good idea to bring along your own if planning to snorkel a lot
- To see the entire variety of marine species at resort, it’s recommended to snorkel around entire island (takes over an hour in one go)
- Pack some adequate sun cream for duration of stay
- No alcoholic drinks are permitted into the Maldives for religious reasons. Any found will be confiscated. Avoid purchasing expensive labels for this trip.
